INCENSE RESINS (granular incense) are an essential part of many religious rituals. In Tibet, grain incense is burned in the initiation of new monks and it is used daily as an offering to fiendly spirits and the spirit of the Dali Lama. It is commonly believed that this incense keeps away evil spirits.
